HYCOM (HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model) is a consortium that handles various ocean data such as sea surface temperature and currents, and provides ocean models using multiple coordinate systems.
Requirements
Data can be downloaded without any requirements and without limits, but the procedure may be somewhat difficult for beginners.

Select Data Server - HTTP/HTTPS from the top tab.

The interface looks somewhat dated by modern standards. Each item consists of combinations of characters with the following meanings.
- GLB-: global (GLoBal).
- GOM-: Gulf of Mexico.
- -a-, -b-, -u-, -v-, -y-: indicate initial conditions or grid variability. For example, -u- means uniform and -v- means variable.
- -0.0x: indicates the grid spacing (resolution).
Data example
In this guide we’ll select GLBy0.08/expt_93.0 (experiment number). If you follow the path shown below, you can click the files with the .nc extension to download them.
